Recently in a family conversation, my second elder brother summed up a set of observations and concluded stating “QED!”. In search of understanding, I realized that QED is a Latin phrase, standing for “𝐪𝐮𝐨𝐝 𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐦” meaning “that which was to be demonstrated” or “what was to be shown”. It conveys that the proof or argument has been successfully completed.

While Latin is Latin for me, to a good extent Science is not 😊So, the QED that I had familiarity was Quantum Electro Dynamics, the relativistic quantum field theory of electrodynamics. Paul Dirac, the British theoretical physicist (Nobel laureate 1933) is credited with coining the term. Richard Feynman whose contributions along with Shin’ichirō Tomonaga, Julian Schwinger [all three of them jointly got the Nobel award in 1965] and Freeman Dyson established quantum electrodynamics to a great extent. Feynman had termed QED as “the crest jewel of Science”. In simpler terms, this theory describes the interactions between light and matter and could be seen as the “quantum” counterpart of classical electromagnetism (remember James Clark Maxwell and his famous equations?)

But the subject of this article is the life of an entrepreneur especially in the formative years. Drawing equivalence from the epic Mahabharatha, it is like the situation that young Abhimanyu, breaking through the almost impregnable formation (chakravyuh), finds himself in, surrounded on all sides by mighty warriors! The entrepreneur has to deal non stop with back-to-back calls, negotiations, contracts, compliance, audit reports, tracking receivables, preserving cashflow, building brand, talent pool management, …….phew! Neither the waves in the ocean abate, nor these transactions. And yet, the secret of success lies in finding time for 𝐐𝐄𝐃 – 𝐐𝐮𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐝 𝐃𝐚𝐲 😊 This is the day when routines and rigamaroles are kept at bay and the mental energy is devoted to one thing, with focus and precision. That one thing may vary on different occasions or possibly be the same for some time. But the secret lies in the ability to remember and find time for a QED. Over a period of time, we stand to witness far-reaching impacts in all what we do. Conclusion is obvious – QED (quod erat demonstrandum)!
