36 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞!

The number 36 has quite a few interesting associations depending on the field we look at it.

The sum of first eight numbers is 36, a 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐧 would point out.

The massive Jupiter takes 11.86 earth years to go around the Sun. The 𝐀𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐫 would see 36 as the time period taken by Jupiter to go around the Sun thrice.

The game of 𝐂𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐭 is a statistician’s delight. Given that an over has six balls to be bowled and the maximum number of runs that can be scored in a ball is a six (excluding no balls, wides), the ‘six sixers’ (or 36 runs in an over) is a rare occurrence. This has been achieved by Garfield Sobers (County Cricket, 1968), Ravi Shastri (Ranji Trophy 1985), Herschelle Gibbs (ODI World Cup, 2007), Yuvaraj Singh (T20 World Cup, 2007), Kieron Pollard (T20I, 2021)

The 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 hymn ‘Kanda Sashti Kavacha’ on Subramanya, composed by Devaraya Swami in the 19th Century and staged at the famous Chennimalai Temple (near Erode), exhorts to chant 36 times in a day.

𝐅𝐢𝐥𝐦 𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐡𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐬 would recall films such as 36 hours (English, War thriller, 1964), 36th Chamber of Shaolin (English, Kung Fu, 1978), 36 China Town (Hindi, Comedy Mystery, 2006), 36 Vayadhinile (Tamil, Comedy Drama, 2016)

For me, today marks the 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 36 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐓 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲. This was the day in 1989, when I joined CMC Ltd at Chennai, having been selected in the campus at Puducherry Technological University. Incidentally this was the first offer in the campus, considering that our batch was the first. The journey has provided opportunity to work across different types of organizations viz. Public Sector IT company (CMC LTD), Government organization (Diwan of Royal Court), privately held IT Services company (Movate) and Entrepreneurial (Yashmia Consulting and Technologies / CTO Bridge). Obviously, lots of learning all the way and definitely into the future too! To be on either side of the table i.e. as a service provider or as a service buyer had helped understanding the different mindsets. Building software/applications for external world as well as internal usage, had widened the perspectives of customer expectations. The forays into leadership roles (apart from Technology) as in Technology Support, Corporate Quality and HR not only provided a 360 view of business but also extensive people networks that contribute as a backbone in the entrepreneurial venture.

The aspirations for the years ahead are wider and include nation building, connecting with youth, contributions towards scientific research, authoring books apart from the expansion of businesses of Yashmia and CTO Bridge 😊
