To recognize the economic contributions made by entrepreneurs in India, Prime Minister Modi had announced the commemoration of Startup on January 15, 2016, during the first Startup India Innovation Week. National Startup Day, honours the transformative power of startups and their role in shaping the future of innovation. Since 2022, National Startup Day has been commemorated on January 16 every year. The Indian startup ecosystem has evolved to be the third-largest in the world and gaining strength as a jobs machine. According to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, DPIIT-recognised startups have created over 16.6 lakh direct jobs across various sectors from 2016 to October 31, 2024. The IT services industry leads with 2.04 lakh jobs, followed by healthcare and life sciences with 1.47 lakh jobs.
